Shadowsteam Kingdom’s

Marquess

Sir. Dorian Meadowguard

Common Knowledge

A Little About Dorian

Sir Dorian grew up like most nobles, educated, well-mannered, and expected to make something out of himself. With the charisma of a cult leader, the wit of a gambler, and the athleticism of a swordsmaster, Sir Dorian made a splash in high society.

Being the 3rd son, he didn’t expect to inherit his father’s title, so he enjoyed life to the fullest. Dorian passed the knight’s exam with flying colors and became the youngest Lieutenant in the Shadowsteam Royal Knightage.

Early in his adult life, Dorian discovered the “Secret” parties, where nobles hid their identities behind masks and outlandish outfits. When they’re confident that no one knows who they are, nobles happily indulge in some illegal activity. As with everything that Dorian does, with the confidence of a rich, white male, he entered the scene as if he owned it.

The Meadowguard Family

The Meadowguard family is one of the founding families, but they were disgraced by a head of house who made stupid choices and was stripped of their title of Duke and their duchy. The family lived as commoners for a couple of generations, until the Brimstonebloom Empire took it over. After it was established that Shadowsteam would submit to the ruling of the Empire, one of the Meadowguards made an offer to the Emperor of the time. Soon after, the Meadowguard family was granted the title Marquess and the lands that came with it.

No one outside the family knows what the offer was that brought the Meadowguards back to nobility, or what they do to maintain their status. The head of the family regularly visits the palace for private meetings with the Emperor and his closest advisors.

Since their rise back to nobility, the Meadowguards have been seen as eccentric. They maintain their noble reputation, but there is always at least one who gives in to temptation and falls to the wrong side of life.

Dorian’s eldest brother became Head of the Family because their father became too ill to maintain his responsibilities as a Marquess.

Current Events

It has been about a year since Dorian’s eldest brother, the Head of the Family, passed away.

According to tradition, the next person to inherit the Marquess title would be the next eldest son.

The 2nd son of Marquess Meadowguard was staying at the Marbletempest Kingdom, trying to find himself. He did manage to find his way back home for his brother’s funeral.

Much like Dorian, the second son didn’t want to be head of the family because he knew he was not well-equipped for that role, and he wanted to go back to Marbletempest.

It’s been less than 6 months since Dorian officially became the Marquess. To anyone paying attention, it looks like he’s having a hard time cleaning up his act. Despite him looking exhausted when he attends meetings at the Royal Palace, he still doesn’t miss a single social event and goes out at all hours of the night to do who knows what.
